When Stories SEE You
I started a podcast!
I got the joy of attending the Early Modern Asexualities conference this past week, hosted by the University of Toronto.
It was so wonderful to hear paper after paper from scholar after scholar highlighting ace resonances in early modern literature, from Shakespeare to poetry to as far back as ancient Greek drama.
I would go on break and literally hop for joy around my house.
Because for the first time, I got to be in a space built by aspec people, for aspec people.
Right down to the garlic bread and cake at the snack table, the little details that craft our community were everywhere, making me feel at home even through the screen.
That’s exactly how we’re building community in Roguish Goblin Stories.
I’m building on their inspiration.
When asked where they see the field of asexuality studies in 5-10 years, one scholar said, “Most of what we want or need, we can start doing now.”
So I’m starting now.
I’ve launched the first two episodes of An Aspec Guide to Shakespeare, a show for those who’d rather hear their dog bark at a crow than someone swear they love them.
As an aspec Shakespeare actor, I want to create the resource I haven’t had yet. A space made by and for aspec community to shine, where scholars can share ideas and artists can turn dramaturgies into action (and productions).
So if you like Shakespeare, the gays, or are just curious as to how Shakespeare could be asexual and/or aromantic, you can listen to the first episode now.
Remember, you’re loved. You’re not alone.
Sending hugs,
Roen
PS: What aspec Shakespeare questions or theories do you have? I’d love to hear :) maybe it’ll pop up in a future episode!
