Theatre CV

Welcome to the adventure!

As a Purdue alum with a double BA in Acting and Creative Writing, Beks Roen (they/he) is here to reinvent the theatre industry. They started getting paid for acting right after graduating high school, with level 2 actor-combatant and stage combat teacher training completed by his second summer post-undergrad.

They write queerly classic adventures, celebrating trans and aspec possibilities and magic. With 3 world premieres (“On The Cusp,” Hudson Valley Shakespeare; Boy-ish, So Deck the Halls, Blanket Fort Theatre), 6 years of professional acting (Great Lakes Theater, Ohio Shakespeare, etc), and over 14 international publications under their belt, Roen is dedicated to bringing stories of hope to audiences outside major theatre hubs.

Beks’s writing can be found in Roguish Goblin Stories, Anodyne Magazine, Phi Beta Kappa’s The Key Reporter, and the COVID-19 Memorial Monument in Chicago.

They run Roguish Goblin Stories, an online queer art library where enbies and aspecs are the main characters. Roen’s goal for RGS is to grow it into a streaming platform that supports multiple queer artists full-time, freeing them to focus on the art they were born to share.

He started Blanket Fort Theatre as a place where the shows are free, artists get paid $20+/hour (or equivalent) AND get meals, and the performances fight loneliness. Roen’s goal for BFT is to grow it into a network of theatre communities that support mental health, housing, and indigenous-led food sovereignty projects.
